Manchester City came back from a goal down to defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Champions League, with Erling Haaland’s magnificent strike proving the difference.

The two teams entered Wednesday’s match level atop Group G after notching wins in their opening matches, but there was little to pick between them after an even 45 minutes.

Dortmund proved difficult to break down and even threatened in attack, while Manchester City played below the standards expected from a Pep Guardiola side.

Edin Terzic’s gameplan was vindicated when the German giants took the lead in the 56th minute.

Jude Bellingham’s glancing header from a Marco Reus cross left Ederson no chance, stunning the home crowd.

Try as they might Guardiola’s men couldn’t find a way past Alexander Meyer until a moment of pure inspiration from John Stones with 10 minutes remaining.

The defender collected the ball to the right of goal before unleashing a swerving strike from 25 metres into the top corner.

Manchester City completed the comeback four minutes later, with Haaland breaking the hearts of his former club.

Joao Cancelo fired in a brilliant cross with the outside of his right boot, and the Norwegian managed to acrobatically meet the ball in the air and somehow clip it past Meyer.

Haaland’s goal, his 13th in nine appearances this season, means Manchester City now have a maximum return from their two Champions League matches.
