Champions of England, Liverpool will begin the defence of their Premier League title against newly-promoted Leeds United at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side powered to the title last season, with not even the coronavirus pandemic that forced the sport to be put on hold for three months preventing them from claiming a first Premier League triumph in 30 years.

That hiatus saw plenty of discussion over the season being abandoned and ruled null and void, but the Premier League’s ability to squeeze in a revamped schedule to complete the season saw Liverpool crowned champions after closest rivals Manchester City failed to beat Chelsea in June.

Klopp has been vocal in his determination to retain the title and leave a lasting legacy on Premier League history, and the German now knows how their path ahead will unfold.

The Reds welcome newly-promoted Leeds United to Anfield on the opening weekend with a trip to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in week two.

The other two newly-promoted sides begin the season at home, with Fulham hosting London rivals Arsenal and West Brom taking on Leicester.

Manchester City’s opening fixture is against Aston Villa, though the game will be rescheduled because of City’s involvement in Europe. The same applies to Manchester United’s opener against Burnley.

Chelsea and Wolves’ opening games are both scheduled for Monday, 14 September after going out in the quarter-finals of Europe.

The Blues are at Brighton, while Wolves go to Sheffield United.

The other fixtures are Crystal Palace v Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur v Everton and West Ham United v Newcastle United.
