Manchester United have reportedly approached Watford to enquire about a transfer for winger, Ismaila Sarr.
The Premier League giants will try to land top target Jadon Sancho this week, but Sarr is being lined up as a cheaper alternative after Liverpool gave up their pursuit of the winger.
Sarr was on Jurgen Klopp’s radar after scoring twice as Watford ended the Reds’ long unbeaten run with a shock 3-0 victory back in February.
The Senegal international – who Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has referred to as “a younger brother” – scored six goals in all for the relegated Hornets last season, also posting six assists.
Klopp’s side were linked with a move for Sarr earlier this summer but were not prepared to pay Watford’s £40m asking price – although they signed Diogo Jota from Wolves for a similar price last week
With Liverpool having stepped back from the race for Sarr’s services, United have now asked Watford about the winger’s availability, according to The Daily Telegraph.
United are believed to be preparing a £90m bid for Sancho this week in the hope that Borussia Dortmund will relent on their £108m asking price for the England star.
But if that doesn’t happen, Sarr would be a cut-price alternative if a fee can be agreed with Watford.
One player United are hopeful of landing on the cheap is Telles, having made an initial bid of £12m for the left-back, according to The Guardian.
Porto value the Brazil international at around £18m, but United are reportedly confident of lowering the price.
Telles, 27, is in the final year of his current deal, so unless he extends, the Red Devils know they will have the chance to sign him for free on a pre-contract agreement in January.
Solskjaer wants to add competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams, having earlier identified Sergio Reguilon as a target before the left-back joined Tottenham from Real Madrid.
