Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager after the team’s dire run of form.

The announcement comes just hours after the Premier League club announced its plans to join a European Super League.

The 58-year-old, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019, was informed of his dismissal on Monday morning after winning just one game in his last five.

The Portuguese manager’s original deal with the north London club had been due to run until the end of the 2023 season.

The North London outfit were top of the Premier League and flying in November but now find themselves seventh in the table and five points off the top four with five games remaining.

Spurs were also knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb in embarrassing fashion in March, having thrown away a 2-0 first leg lead in the round of 16 tie.

Mourinho’s last game in charge of Spurs was a 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday night at Goodison Park.

First-team coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell are poised to take charge of the team for the rest of the season, starting with the visit of Southampton on Wednesday.
