Manchester United have confirmed the departure of French midfielder Paul Pogba after six years at Old Trafford where he won League Cup and Europa League.

Pogba, 29, will be out of contract on June 30 and will leave Man United exactly 10 years on from the previous time he left the club by running down his contract.”The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon the expiry of his contract,” United said at the start of a lengthy send-off statement on the club website.

“Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United.

“We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey.”

Pogba re-signed for Man United for a world record £89million in 2016 and won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season, scoring in the latter final.

However, the rest of Pogba’s United career was fraught and laden with the incident. His late agent, Mino Raiola, offered Pogba to Manchester City in January 2018 and claimed the Frenchman’s United career was “over” in 2020.

Pogba revealed the sacking of Jose Mourinho in December 2018 on Twitter and publicly said it was “time for a challenge somewhere else” in July 2019.

Despite a fine start to the 2021-22 season, Pogba was dropped following the 4-2 defeat to Leicester City in October and he was sent off a week later in the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool.

Pogba cupped his ear to Man United supporters who chanted “F–k off Pogba” on his final appearance at Old Trafford against Norwich in April.

Pogba’s last appearance for United was against Liverpool at Anfield but came off injured after 10 minutes with United already 1-0 down.

Pogba played 233 matches for United, scored 39 goals, and won two trophies.
