Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the renewal of MTN Nigeria’s Unified Access Service (UAS) Licence and spectrum licences in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands.
The UAS and spectrum licences, are due to expire on 31 August 2021 and the process of renewal of the licences for a further ten-year period, starting 1 September 2021 is at an advanced stage, according to MTN.
“These frequencies underpin our data network and provide the platform on which we can accelerate coverage and continue to improve the quality of our services,” MTN said in a statement following the release of its 2020 audited financial accounts.
It is not known how much MTN will pay for the license but Airtel Africa recently paid $189 million to renew its license.
