The U.S. president Donald Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize on Friday at the 2026 World Cup draw, which was held in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center.

“This is truly one of the great honors of my life,” Trump said in brief remarks on stage after being presented with a medal and a trophy.

“The world is a safer place now. The United States one year ago was not doing too well, and now I have to say we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world and we’re going to keep it that way.”

Trump was in attendance to collect the prize from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who has referred to the U.S. president as a “close friend” on multiple occasions.

The FIFA Peace Prize is, per the governing body, intended for “individuals who, through their unwavering commitment and their special actions, have helped to unite people all over the world in peace and consequently deserve a special and unique recognition.”
