The newly established Driver Monitoring Control Room is designed to enhance road safety standards and systematically evaluate driver conduct across the organization’s nationwide fleet.
The system was demonstrated to the media over the weekend, showing how the company intends to handle risky driving behaviours in real time and respond swiftly.
In a nutshell, the Driver Monitoring Control Room would help improve operational efficiency and reduce accidents, which have been a thorn in the side of the company in the past.
“We are constantly looking for innovative ways to strengthen safety across our transport operations,” the Head of Operations, Dangote Transport, David Idiege, stated.
“The Driver Monitoring Control Room represents another significant milestone in our efforts to ensure that all journeys are conducted safely and responsibly,” he added.
He noted that safety continues to be a core priority in managing the company’s extensive nationwide truck fleet, as seen in the Punch Newspaper.
“Safety remains our highest priority. We recognize the responsibility that comes with operating a large fleet of vehicles across the country.
That is why we continue to invest heavily in technology, systems and training that help us maintain the highest safety standards,” Idiege disclosed.
According to Idiege, measures such as speed limiters, vehicle immobilisers, speed booster control systems, facial recognition devices, journey management protocols, mandatory drug and alcohol testing, compulsory rest periods, periodic recertification and regular training have been implemented by the company to ensure safer and more efficient driving.
“Our approach is holistic. Technology alone is not enough. We combine technology with strict operational procedures, driver welfare programmes, competency assessments, recertification exercises and continuous capacity building to ensure that our drivers remain professional and safety-conscious at all times,” he stated.
“We do not encourage driver fatigue. Every driver is required to comply with our journey management procedures and mandatory rest schedules. We understand that alert and healthy drivers make safer decisions on the road,” he added.

Dangote Truck Incidents
A report by the Punch newspaper shows that in August 2025, in Edo, a Southern State in Nigeria, a crash involving a Dangote Cement truck, another truck and a Mercedes reportedly killed three people.
The incident attracted significant public attention because it occurred near a major tertiary institution in the region, Auchi Polytechnic.
But perhaps the most high-profile case involving a Dangote vehicle came in the same period when Ruth Otabor, the sister of BBNaija winner Phyna, was struck by a truck linked to Dangote and later died from her injuries.
The incident generated considerable public outrage and calls for greater accountability.
