A pair of US officials have told CBS News that Israel’s “expanded” military activity in the Gaza Strip appears to be the start of a ground offensive, but stress the scope of the operations is not yet clear.
The comments came as Palestinian media in Gaza said Israel was carrying out further strikes in the Strip overnight, after reporting clashes between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli ground forces who entered the enclave, including tanks.
Hamas stated early Saturday that their forces encountered Israeli forces and said that they are ready to fight with force against any ground invasion by Israel, Walla reported.
