A socioeconomic group under the aegis of Arewa Solidarity Group (ASG), has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to consider Nasir El-rufai’s performance and political antecedents for the choice of the running mate of the party’s Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group said that the choice of running mate is a critical success factor for the victory of Tinubu in 2023, being the reason while the party must consider acceptability and political weight of who becomes the running mate to Tinubu.
The Chairman Board of Trustees ( BoT) of the group, Abdullahi Muhammed Jika, during a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, said that beyond the political strength of northwest region where governor El-rufai is based, his political cloud and performances in the space of his administration is also another advantage that qualified Gov. El-rufai to be the running mate of the party’s presidential candidate.
According to Jika, it is no doubt, in the present political dispensation, that Gov. El-rufai has proven his worth as a political administrator with the can-do-spirit to match the yielning of Nigerians.
Jika further explained that El-Rufai is a very experienced politician who has done well in both politics and governance at the federal and state levels and is the best candidate that can complement Tinubu as Vice President.
“This is a man who strongly believes in the unity of the country. His cabinet was made up of people of different religions and tribes. This is a man that is running a state government with appointees from all over Nigeria,” Jika said.
In his part, the Chairman of the group, Isa Ahmed, also said that competence must be considered as a factor while choosing a running mate for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Gov. El-Rufai is a political leader whose political experience should be brought back to the federal level. His capacity is not in doubt. His personal ability is outstanding. He is firm. He is courageous, and all these must be considered,” Ahmed said.
