Rebecca Joynes Alleged Six Words Before ‘Undressing’ in Front of Pupil, 15, at Her Flat

Rebecca Joynes, a teacher accused of sexual activity with teenage boys told one of them “no-one had better find out”, a court has heard.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, became pregnant by a teenage boy, known in the trial as Boy B, while she was on bail for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with Boy A, a jury heard. She is accused of six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, including two while being a person in a position of trust.

Manchester Crown Court heard how the teacher laughed and said “Oh shut up!” to one of the boys when he told her, “I’m not old enough” to drive. Joynes had made a comment about driving after picking the 15-year-old boy from school in her car, before going to her flat where they allegedly engaged in sexual activity.

The boy, known only as Boy A, said he would not know about that as he was too young to drive – which Joynes while laughing replied, “Oh shut up! Stop saying that!” it was alleged.

urors later heard what Boy A had told police happened at Joynes’s flat, where they went after shopping at the Trafford Centre. He said: “I remember feeling it was a bit weird, in the moment going up the stairs.”

Boy A said he sat on the edge of the bed and the pair started to kiss. He continued: “She took her jacket off and took her stuff off. As she was getting undressed she said, ‘No one had better find out’.” The boy said they had oral sex, adding: “she said, ‘how do you want to do it then?”‘, before Joynes got on all fours on the bed, the court heard.

Boy A continued: “Then after that I was like, turn over, and she turned over on her back on the bed. At the time I literally thought to myself this is weird.” Boy A said he took a shower and they remained in bed for a couple of hours before he suggested more sex.

Boy A said: “She was like, ‘I don’t mind. Whatever you want’.” He said he told her, “I pray you don’t get pregnant”, to which Joynes allegedly replied, “I don’t know if I can be anymore”. He then fell asleep and left her flat the next day, after telling his mother he was staying at a friend’s house, the court heard.

On the second day of the trial, jurors watched the video interview Boy A gave to police officers, where he told how Joynes had given him only 10 of the 11 digits of her phone number – and he worked out the missing digit to first make contact with her. The pair then exchanged Snapchat messages, and after finishing school on a Friday afternoon he went home, changed out of his school uniform and Joynes picked him up at a prearranged point in her white Audi A1 car.

The police officer asked Boy A: “What were you wanting to happen?” He replied: “To be honest, I was not expecting that to happen, what happened. I didn’t expect anything.”

“What were you hoping to happen?” the officer continued. “I don’t know,” the boy said, adding: “But anyone in my position, when you are my age, my year. If you ever see her – she is good-looking.”

Boy A said he expected to do what had been planned – go to the Trafford Centre and back to her flat. He said: “I remember her saying you might as well come to her apartment, and I said, I may as well stay. She said, ‘OK. That works for me.”

After picking the youngster up, Joynes drove to pick her dog up from daycare and dropped it off with her parents in Wirral, telling the boy she had arranged for them to have it overnight. The boy said he did not see the hand over to her mother as Joynes parked in another street, “probably because how young I look,” he said.

Boy A recalled a conversation on the way to an officer. He said: “She said something about driving. I went, ‘I wouldn’t know because I’m not old enough,’ and she said, ‘Oh shut up’ laughing, said something like, ‘Stop saying that’ but laughing.”

The youngster said Joynes had bought him a £345 Gucci designer belt while shopping at the Trafford Centre. The pair then went back to her flat at Salford Quays where they twice engaged in sexual activity, it was alleged. A police investigation followed as Joynes was suspended by her school, and later told police that no sexual activity had taken place.

She was subsequently bailed on condition she had no unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 18, but police later found Joynes had been in a long-term sexual relationship with another teenage boy she was contacting while suspended.

Joynes claims sexual activity with Boy B did not start until he turned 16. Joynes denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.
