ActionAid Nigeria In collaboration with global peace development, with funding from Global Community Engagement Resilience Funds (GCERF) has advocated for quick passage of the Nasarawa state Youth development bill into law.
The Executive director, Global Peace Development, Ebruke Onajite Esike, disclosed this at the Nasarawa state house of assembly complex Lafia, when they visited the assembly as part of activities commemorating the 2021 ‘International Peace Day’ with the theme “Recovering Better An Equitable And Peaceful World.”
Esike said “We use this opportunity to commend this honourable house for its doggedness in championing the cause of youths in Nasarawa state and hope that in a month’s time, we will gather here to celebrate the passage of the Youth Development Commission bill with your commitment.
“Let’s arm our youths with education, skills and structures to support their goals and see Nasarawa state flourish beyond our expectation devoid of radicalization and violent extremism, and imbibing the culture of peace,” he said.
While enumerating the success of the NGO, including push for the adoption and signing of Nasarawa state Action plan SAP, by governor Abdullahi Sule, in August 2020 in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325, equipment of over 500 Youths among others, the executive director appreciated the assembly for quick passage of the VAPP bill into law.
Responding, the speaker of the Nasarawa state house of assembly, Balarabe Abdullahi represented by the chairman house committee on information, Hon. Mohammed Umadefu, appreciated the NGO for championing the course of peace in Nasarawa state.
“You’re here to commemorate ‘International Peace Day’. The speaker has asked me to let you know that everything is possible for the assembly to maintain peace in the state and to also let you know that not only the youth development bill that is in second reading, the assembly is working on other bills that will bring peace in Nasarawa state and Nigeria at large.
We want to tell you that this Bill’s that you have championed, we have no option than to maintain peace at all cost. Nasarawa state governor is up and doing to ensure that peace is sustained in the state. We have had enough of violence in all strata of life. We will maintain peace using legislative means.”.
