The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Wale Abass has ordered the deployment of adequate Police Officers across the State to create an enabling environment for the peaceful celebration of Eid-el Kabir.
To this end, police officers have been deployed to provide security at all Muslim prayer grounds, event centres and all routes within the State during the celebration.
A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, quotes the Commissioner as calling on the good people of Benue State to be law abiding and report suspicious activities to the Police.
“The command will not tolerate any attempt to break law and order in the state. The CP felicitate with Muslim faithful in the state and employs them to be security conscious”.
The statement further advised that command emergency phone numbers be kept handy for ease of communication.
The listed the Benue Police Command emergency numbers to include, 0806-600-6475, 07067374913, and 8057493117; pointing out that these numbers are available to members of the public at all times.
In another development, the Benue State Police Command has arrested four suspected gun and ammunition runners on 4th July 2022 at about 1730hrs by officers of Operation Zenda JTF during stop and search duty at Dura bridge, Ugbema in Buruku local government area of the State.
The Command’s PPRO Sewuse Anene confirmed in a statement that one Terhide Iordye was arrested with one hundred and eighty thousand 7.62 x 39mm live AK-47 ammunition in a sack.
“Further investigation led to his confession that there were other gang members in Makurdi. Three other suspects; Emanuel Kuhwa, Ikyor Titus and Inas Moses were subsequently arrested in possession of 120 amounting to 300 ammunitions”.
According to the PPRO, an investigation is ongoing to unravel the source and the intended destination of those ammunitions, calling people to volunteer information to the command on criminal hideout for necessary action.#
