BUA Cement Plc Thursday launched Agricultural Inputs distribution to no fewer than 300 farmers that were resettled from their communities in Sokoto State.
The donation which was done under the auspices of BUA Sustainable Livelihood Restoration Programme attracted accolades from benefiting communities.
Addressing beneficiaries in his vote of thanks, BUA’s CEO/Managing Director, Engr Yusuf Haliru Binji said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that those farmers displaced from their ancestral land because of industrial expansion are consistently empowered.
“As you are aware, the expansion of our industrial operations, particularly, our quarrying activities, sometimes neccesitates the relocation of settlements to ensure safety and access to raw materials.”
While noting that aside providing new shelters for resettled communties, BUA Cement plc also ensured that those farmers who depended on their lands do not only recover their means of earning a living but are also empowered to improve upon it.
The CEO/MD Engr Binji who was represented by the Assistant Director Administration and Corporate Services, Alhaji Sada Sulaiman said they understand the challenges facing modern farmers such as access to quality seeds, affordable fertilisers and the right tools, hence the resolution to step in and bridge that gap.
Binji, who further noted that BUA recently signed a 5 year (2025-2030) agreement as part of their shared prosperity plans, listed some of the structured frameworks to include, support for healthcare, scholarships, skills aquisition, vocational trainings as well as critical infrastructures like roads and water.
Earlier in his welcome address, BUA’s Head of Department, Health, Community, Safety and Environment (HCSE) said the company remained committed to its Corporate Social Responsibility to host communities and the state.
Reacting on his part, the District Head of Arkila, (Ubandoman Arkila), Aliyu Hassanan said they are not surprised by BUA Cement Company’s continued assistance to the host communities.
He therefore reassured that they will continue to pray for the profess of BUA cement company, adding however that the company should try further by employing qualified workforce from the host communities and not the usual concentration on engaging the as mere labourers
Lending his voice to the development, the chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Hon. Farouk Dundaye thanked BUA on behalf of all beneficiaries.
