A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Neem Foundation, has tasked Kaduna State Government agencies to collaborate with NGOs working towards achieving peace building in the state.
The foundation said that through partnership with relevant stakeholders, the government can achieve a better society for the populace.
Speaking at a one day workshop in Kaduna, the Community Dialogue Officer; Neem Foundation, Kaduna State Field Office, Mukaffa Nasir, disclosed that the meeting was geared towards buttressing on the successes achieved on their engagement with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and All Farmers Association of Nigeria.
While calling on the government to support peace building programs in the state, Nasir said that, it has become imperative for government agencies, such as: Peace Commission, Ministry of Home and Internal Security, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Inter faith mediation centre amongst others to maintain the sustainability of peace building programs.
Speaking during the meeting, the representative of the Kaduna State Police Command, SP Ibrahim Mohammed, commended the peace building programs of Neem Foundation, especially in the area ensuring peaceful coexistence between the farmers and Cattle Breeders Association.
Other stakeholders at the workshop also said that their engagement with the foundation has availed them the strategy on how to solve issues on land disputes, community clash among other issues.
“Our engagement with Neem Foundation has really brought peace to my community which is why we are calling for their sustainability as it has lessen our problems and we have come to learn to live together peacefully,” the Agom Kufana, a traditional ruler said.
In her response, the Permanent Commissioner, Kaduna Peace Commission, Rebecca Sako-John, reiterated the commitment of the commission in partnering with relevant stakeholders working in peace building organisations for conflict resolution and mitigation in communities across the state.
