Education Commissioner Joins Benue Governorship Race

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar has declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat during the 2023 general election under the platform of the peoples Democratic Party.

He said having risen to the position of professorship and other contacts within and outside the country, he has acquired the prerequisite knowledge about good governance that he intends to bring to bear in Benue state.

Addressing his paternal people, Prof. Ityavyar noted that as a custodian of Tiv culture and tradition, he thought it wise to seek their blessing before embarking on the journey.

“I have the requisite experience which I gathered within and outside the country to Govern Benue State. I offered my services to former Senate president Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as Chief of Staff and Technical Adviser to a former minister and as a member of the state executive council.”

According to him, he has first hand information about what Benue people need as well as the challenges hence he is in a vantage position to govern the state come 2023.

The Education Commissioner who said he was ready to resign his appointment next month to pursue his ambition, therefore, listed education, security, agriculture, youth and women empowerment among others as sectors his administration will place priorities if voted to power.

Responding, the Kindred Head of Mbaakon, Chief Anongu Tor Kpaiye, described Prof. Ityavyar as a blessed child, noting that before he was born he knew this day would surely come to pass.

He also lauded Prof. Ityavyar for his decision to seek their blessings even as he said they have unanimously given their blessing to his aspiration, and charged him to seek the face of God and others for his ambition to come to fruition.

Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of caterpot to Prof. Ityavyar for the protection of Benue people against Fulani herdsmen militias whose consistent attack on Benue people have kept them in IDP camps for years.

Ityavyar was thereafter presented to the elders while his feet were washed before handing him over to PDP Kindred Chairman and the local government PDP Chairman.

He was accompanied by his local government Coordinator, Mr. Akpentumum, Chief John Usaka, Hon. Thardemenongo Tsockarl unom, Hon. Williams Ortese, Hon. Ter Nyighyongu, Hon. Boniface Tarver, Hon. Ter Pine, Dr. Utoor and many others.
