The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged journalists in the country to uphold objectivity and the ethics of the noble profession.

The Sultan made this appeal during a visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, who paid him a traditional Sallah homage at his palace in Sokoto on Sunday.

Abubakar advised, “You should discharge your constitutional duties responsibly, diligently, patriotically, and honestly.

“You should never operate like social media practitioners who have no respect for ethics or objectivity. This is crucial for sustainable peace, unity, security, and the socio-economic prosperity of Nigeria.”

The traditional ruler congratulated members of the press on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, saying, “We should all be grateful to Almighty Allah for witnessing this significant moment.”

The Chairman of the NUJ Sokoto State Council, Usman Mohammed Binji, had earlier told the Sultan that the visit was to congratulate him and the Sultanate Council of Sokoto on their successful celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

Binji also praised the Sultan for being media-friendly and promised to sustain the cordial relationship between the Sultan, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, and the union.
