A group under the auspices of Advocacy for Good Governance, has disclosed that the Governor of Zamfara state, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, emerged as the Governor of the state at a time the state was on the brink of socioeconomic collapse.

The group stated that prior to the Matawalle’s emergence in 2019, the Zamfara citizens were marooned between the devil and the deep blue sea, adding that it was literally symbolized by the pillaging administration of the time and the rampaging bandits unleashing terror on another end.

This was contained in a statement signed by the leader of the group, Muhammed Abdullahi, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday.

“Zamfara was hitherto synonymous with sanctioned state looting, banditry, endemic poverty, hunger, disease, palpable social discontent and all-round retrogression.

“It boasted of the highest maternal and infant mortality rate in Sub-Saharan Africa; an incontestable position down the ladder of human development index, and other accompaniments of failed leadership.

“Today, within these years, the gloomy trends have been supplanted by a new era of peace, progress and prosperity for all in the state,” the group noted.

On the insecurity, the group however, explained that the political will of the Matawalle’s administration has changed the narrative.
