As the gubernatorial election draws closer, the Kaduna state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Collation Agent, Danjuma Bello Sarki, has called on the electoral body; INEC, to ensure neutrality and stay away from being biased.
Sarki noted that so far, the umpire had heeded to the various complaints emanated from the last presidential and national assembly elections, urging INEC to correct the lapses identified before the coming elections.
The state collation agent for PDP said this while addressing pressmen during the distribution of election materials to the 23 local government areas of the state in Kaduna on Wednesday.
According to him, ” there were issues of non-functionality of the BVAS machines, and this issue should be addressed before the coming elections but, for the late arrival of materials, I think INEC has heeded to our advice, being the reason why they commenced distribution today with the hope that by tomorrow, all the LGAs should get their materials. By Friday, we expected that the materials will get to the wards for onwards distribution to polling units on Saturday.
“Our call on INEC is to ensure neutrality and remain unbiased, and not to allow themselves to be used. The neutrality displayed at the last election by INEC and security was commendable, and we expected to see more of the neutrality in the coming election.
“All the gray areas identified should be addressed before the election to enable the electorate to exercise their franchise and elect leaders of their choice.
While speaking, Sarki also urged the security to maintain global standards in the discharge of their constitutional responsibility, and not to allow themselves to be used by some politicians or any political party at the detriment of the society.
On his part, the Head of Electoral Operations; Kaduna INEC, Hussaini Ali Muhammad, assured the people of the Commission’s readiness to ensure that people’s votes count.
Muhammad said: ” We do all our work with all the stakeholders, and this is to ensure transparency.”
