Insurgency: North East Governors Advocate For Sustained Collaboration Among Security Agencies

The Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States, under the auspices of North East Governors Forum (NEGF) has called for continued collaboration among security agencies in the fight against insurgency in the subregion in order to sustain the gain recorded at the moment.

This is contained in a communique signed  by its Chairman, Gov Babagana Zulum of Borno at the end of the fifth meeting of the forum in Jalingo.

The forum expressed delight over the general improvement in security situation in the subregion at the moment, saying continuous collaboration among security agencies would sustain the gains.

The Forum calls on the diplomatic community, partners and donor agencies supporting the subregion to activate the process of transiting from humanitarian to stabilization and durable solution.

According to the communique, the  transition would ensure sustainability and give people the opportunity to help themselves out of poverty.

The forum also decried  the negative impact of drug and narcotic substances in the region and the extent to which it aided the  Insurgency and other forms of criminality in the subregion.

It therefore calls for support in the area of stopping drug trafficking and enforcing narcotic control within the region and across the various borders.

While congratulating the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Maj. Gen Farouk Yahaya, NEGF condoles with President Muhammadu Buhari and the families of the  late COAS, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others who lost their lives in a plane crash.

MoneyCentral gathered that Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, Bala Muhammed of Bauchi, Inua Yahaya of Gombe and the Deputy Governor of Yobe Alhaji Idi Barde participated in the meeting.
