A group of women who are supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday protested against the outcome of the just concluded gubernatorial election in Kaduna state.
The results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the group, have received wide condemnation.
While protesting at the NUJ Secretariat, Kaduna Council, the women also alleged that INEC was biased, and went contrary to the provisions of the constitution and electoral act.
Addressing press during the protest, a former Kaduna State PDP Women Leader, Hajiya Hafsat Ibrahim Medina, averred that the party was working on challenging the election result in court.
She explained that the essence of the protest was to inform the world about their grievances, just as she said: ” there were probable infractions in the manually collated data INEC used to declare Sen Uba Sani, the APC candidate, the winner of the election, as opposed to the results on the INEC portal.
Medina therefore called on the electoral umpire to review the result and act accordingly in order to redeem its image. ” What is the essence of transmitting the results from the polling units if they were not verifiable.”
Meanwhile, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Isah Ashiru, has vowed to recover his mandate in court, as he expressed confidence in the judiciary during the recovery process.
Ashiru, while addressing a press conference at his residence on Thursday in Kaduna, said he would not leave any stone unturned to achieve this, noting that the people’s mandate is sacrosanct.
During the protest at the NUJ Secretariat, the women displayed various placards some of which read: “A stolen Mandate is not acceptable,” “give us who we voted for,” “no to election rigging,” “Kaduna State has spoken,” “Kaduna people elected, INEC selected,” “no to result manipulation.
