Lawyers Without Borders ( Avocats Sans Frontieres France ), have sensitized stakeholders in Kaduna on violations of human rights.
According to the Project Director, Angela Uwandu, explained that the round table meeting which was held on Thursday was aimed at advocating for strengthening of the rule of law and, particularly of the right to a fair trial.
The stakeholders at the meeting berated torture as a means to obtaining information especially from suspects, adding that there is no justification for torture.
It was also noted that section 3 of the anti – torture act (2017) stated that there is no exceptional circumstances, whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification for torture.
According to the section of the act, secret detention places, solitary confinement, incommunicado or other similar forms of detention, where torture may be carried on are prohibited.
In his remarks, the moderator of the meeting, Sherrif Ndasule explained that the expectations of Nigerians from security agencies in addressing Human Rights violations in the state are high.
The meeting also resolved that stakeholders should follow up on the outcome of the Panel of enquiry set up in Kaduna State after the #ENDSARS protest.
