The Nasarawa State Government has distributed instructional materials worth over N70 million to 418 public secondary schools in the state. Hajiya Fatu Sabo, Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology disclosed this during the distribution of the items in Lafia.
Hajiya Fatu Sabo explained that the items include; science equipment, technical equipment, English, Mathematics and text books in major subjects and teaching aid.
According to the Commissioner, the distribution of the items was in fulfilment of the promises of Governor Abdullahi Sule to improve the quality of education.She commended the governor for giving priority to the education sector which was why education was given over 30 per cent in the 2021 budget of the state.
She added that the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration in the last two years has demonstrated determination to improve the quality of education to meet global standards.
The Commissioner said that the ministry is currently carrying out massive rehabilitation of schools and construction of perimeter fencing to protect school’s lands from encroachment.
She also said that in 2020, the government had distributed bed and mattresses, chairs, mosquito nets, COVID-19 protective kids, upkeep to Chief Inspectors of Education and Science and Technical equipment to the public schools including private schools.
The Commissioner further said that the government is feeding students from the 28 boarding schools in the state. The Commissioner also said that the governor has employed 2, 250 teachers to improve the number of teachers given the spread of public schools and to reduce the rate of unemployment.
Hajiya Fatu Sabi therefore, said that the ministry has already set up machinery to monitor the items against diversion and warned that anyone caught diverting the items would face serious disciplinary action.
Responding, Alaku Namo, Chief Inspector of Education of Mada Station Area Office commended the governor and the Commissioner for the wonderful work they are doing to transform the sector.
He therefore said they would distribute the items to all schools under their supervision and monitor to ensure that Principals allow teachers to make use of them for the benefit of the students.
