Sokoto Re-run: Stakeholders Hail INEC For Transparence

Voters in Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency the Sokoto re-run election early morning on Saturday to elect their preferred candidates in 26 polling units whose votes were canceled by the Court of Appeal.

At Bodinga West State Constituency there was a large turnout of voters especially women at all the polling units monitored by our Correspondent.

At Yabo Kan Wuri polling unit 001 voters were seen as early as 8 am in queue waiting for accreditation to vote.

Many who spoke with Journalists expressed appreciation for the process, saying that it was less stressful than what was obtained in the last general elections.

Malam Garba, one of the voters, expressed hope that this time around, their votes will count and the winner will emerge.

Recall that Hon Umar Yusuf Yabo of the PDP was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2023 National Assembly election to represent the Constituency.

His declaration by INEC was however challenged by Hon. Abubakar Umaru Dan Bukari of the APC challenged his opponent, Umar of the PDP at the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.

The re-run had kicked off without a hitch, witnessing a substantial voter turnout at the designated polling units.

The INEC office in the state had expressed its readiness for rancour-free re-run elections in 46 polling units within the state, following the appeal court nullification of 26 polling units.

Our Correspondent who monitored the re-run Election reports that INEC officials assembled election materials as early as 8 a.m., with the screening of voters and casting of ballots going simultaneously.

Adequate security was made available at all the polling units to ensure orderliness with a lineup of voters as early as 7 a.m.

The re-run Election is keenly between the two major political parties, the APC and Peoples Democratic Party, each of the two candidates has higher hopes of winning the re-run Election with a wide margin.
