The Chief Medical Director Nasarawa state specialist hospital, Doctor Ikrama Hassan, has lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for giving the hospital the attention it deserved through provision of more equipment and structures needed for the smooth functioning of the hospital.
Dr. Hassan, made the disclosure in an interaction with newsmen in Lafia. He explained that the state government in the last two years spent billions of naira in buying more equipment and building more structures.
The CMD listed some of the machines to includes; ventilators, Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, data and mobile x-ray machines, echo machine among others.
He added that the governor had also furnished the newly built administrative block as well as all the laboratories and eight new clinics.
He said the governor has also provided staff quarters to over 50 senior Doctors with Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) Lafia.
Ikrama said the staff quarters were aimed at bringing the Doctors close to the hospital for prompt response to emergencies in line with global based practices.
He further explained that given the problem of insecurity in the country, the hospital has beefed up security including the army in the staff quarters and other facilities belonging to them.
The CMD said the hospital had successfully trained and graduated six consultants locally through their residency training in five departments in the last two years.
He said they graduated one consultant in the obstetrics and gynaecology department and five in the department of family medicine. He explained that the Specialist Hospital was among the few state owned specialist hospitals carrying out residency training in the country.
He further explained that the hospital started with one department and now five, adding that the management under his leadership was working hard to begin residency training in more departments.
Dr. Ikrama added that the residency training was aimed at ensuring that Medical Doctors attend the height of their career.
He promised that modalities were being worked out to commence postgraduate training for other clinical staff.
The Medical Director assured members of the public that the hospital was now properly equipped with medical facilities and qualified manpower with a view of ensuring better service delivery.
