The president of Colombian second-division football team Tigres FC, Edgar Paez, has been fatally shot by hitmen following his club’s defeat on Saturday night.
The 64-year-old was driving home from the 3-2 home defeat to Atletico FC de Cali when he was attacked by two gunmen on a motorbike, with his daughter also present at the scene.
According to Sportskeeda, Paez’s daughter escaped from the scene unhurt, but the Tigres FC president was not so lucky as he received four shots to the neck and skull.
An investigation into the murder has been launched as authorities aim to uncover the reason for the brutal killing of Paez, who has been president of Tigres FC since 2016.

Tigres FC are currently bottom, in 16th spot, of the Categoria Primera B standings with just nine points and two wins from 13 league matches.
Meanwhile, the brutal killing of Paez has once again brought to light the rise of football-related shootings in Colombia following the incident of Andres Escobar, Leadership reports.
Recall that in the aftermath of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, former Colombia defender Andres Escobar was shot dead on July 2, 1994, in vengeance for scoring an own goal that contributed to his team’s elimination from the tournament.
Elson Becerra, who helped Colombia win the 2001 Copa America, was shot in a nightclub in his birth town Cartagena on January 8, 2006, after a fight with some individuals a few days before.
