Nigerian and Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers is reportedly undergoing his medical ahead of a potential €5m move to Rangers, MoneyCentral reports.

Rangers are closing in on a €5m deal for Dessers after they had a bid accepted and the player agreed a five-year deal until 2028

The Nigeria international could complete the his move to Ibrox stadium this week as he is set to become Michael Beale’s sixth summer signing.

The Nigeria international’s current contract at Cremonese runs until 2027 after he put pen to paper on a five-year deal when he signed from Genk last summer.

The 28-year-old Nigeria striker scored six goals in the Serie A last season as Cremonese finished second bottom and were relegated into the second tier.

Beale is looking to add another goalscorer to his ranks following the departure of Alfredo Morelos after his contract expired this month and has identified Dessers as a player who can complement the existing squad.

Dessers will become Rangers’ sixth summer signing in what has been a very busy summer already, following the captures of Sam Lammers, Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Abdallah Sima.

The Super Eagles striker began his career with OH Leuven and Lokeren before a successful spell in Netherlands where he enjoyed regular goalscoring with NAC Breda, Utrecht and Heracles.

Genk then signed the forward on a four-year deal in 2020 but he returned to Netherlands a year later for a spell at Feyenoord.

Dessers scored 20 goals in 41 games but didn’t extend his stay there, instead moving to Cremonese last summer.

The forward found game time limited in the second half of the season with the Italian club and finished up with seven goals from his 29 appearances in all competitions last term.

Rangers begin their Premiership campaign against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on August 5.
