Ivan Rakitic is poised to seal a move away from Barcelona and return to Sevilla after an agreement was reached between the two sides.

The midfielder was largely restricted to substitute appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, starting just 22 of his 42 outings in all competitions, and has been linked with a Sevilla reunion for some time.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, an agreement between Barcelona and Sevilla has been reached and the deal is done.

The move is subject to Rakitic passing a medical, which he is currently in the process of completing.

The Croatian international initially left Sevilla for Barcelona in 2014 after captaining the side to Europa League success that season.

He sealed an €18m move to Camp Nou, and would go on to win four La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey on four occasions and the Champions League in 2015 during his six years at the club.

However, suggestions that Rakitic was not entirely content in Catalonia emerged in April after the 32-year-old insisted he was ‘not a bag of potatoes’ and that he would have his say on his future.

He did hint at a potential return to his former club, stating: “I have a special affection for Seville, but directly to the city, I have my family there. I have always said that it would be a great dream to wear that shirt again, everyone knows it, but it is not my own decision.”

According to Spanish publication Sport, the former Basel man will take more than a 50% pay cut in order to move to Sevilla, pocketing €3.7m per year compared the annual salary of €7.8m that he earned at Barcelona.

The agreement between the two sides will see Barcelona receive a fee between the €5m to €10m mark for Rakitic, who scored 35 goals in 310 appearances for the club.
