Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

Awoniyi’s recognition for his impressive performances for Nottingham Forest at the beginning of the 2023-24 Premier League season have earned him a nomination for the award.

The Nigerian international began the season with a goal after he came off the bench against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

He continued his impressive form against newly promoted side Sheffield United, scoring in the third minute of their 2-1 win over the Blades.

The former Union Berlin striker ended August with a bang, scoring another goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford, but his team unfortunately lost 3-2 to the Red Devils.

According to Soccernet, Awoniyi is up against another African superstar, Bryan Mbeumo, for the award. The Cameroon international has also had a good start with Brentford in the absence of Ivan Toney.

Other players nominated for the awards are Brighton & Hove Albion forward, Kaoru Mitoma; West Ham winger, Jarrod Bowen; and Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, James Maddison.

Awoniyi’s impressive performances at the beginning of the season didn’t go unnoticed by Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro.

The Portuguese manager included the 26-year-old striker in his 23-man squad to face Sao Tome and Principe in Nigeria’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Nottingham Forest star is currently in the Super Eagles camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, with the other 22 players.
