Shell has given Halliburton an integrated drilling contract to work on the UK supermajor’s shallow-water HI gas project offshore Nigeria, the Houston-based energy services titan said Wednesday.
Financial terms of the deal, awarded by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, were not disclosed.
Halliburton said it will deploy remote operations and automated technologies for the work. Shell sanctioned HI, located in Nigeria’s Oil Mining Licence 144, in mid-October.
The UK supermajor operates the HI project with a 40% working interest. Its partner is local player Sunlink Energies & Resources, which owns a 60% stake.
When completed, HI will supply 350 million cubic feet per day of gas to the Nigeria LNG plant on Bonny Island, in which Shell has a 25.6% stake.
The gas will be sent to the delayed Train 7 of the liquefied natural gas plant, currently being built by a Saipem-led consortium.
Production is expected to begin before the end of this decade, Shell has said.
