PZ Cussons Plc has reduced its debt burden to optimise its capital structure, strengthen financial flexibility, and manage high borrowing costs as the consumer goods giant recorded earnings growth that strengthens investors’ optimism about consistent dividend payment.

A deleveraging milestone shows total debts reduced by 91.71 percent to N5.90 billion in June 2026 from N71.26 billion as at June 2025.

The company returned to a positive shareholders’ fund of N66.64 billion in the first six months of 2026 from a loss of N17.31 billion as at June 2025.

Debt-to-equity fell to 8.85 percent in the period under review from a negative figure of -23.85 percent, according to MoneyCentral calculations.

A low debt-to equity ratio indicates higher financial stability, lower financial stress, easier loan access, stronger investor confidence as such a favorable leverage position makes the company impervious to macroeconomic downturn.

Consumer goods firms have embarked on balance sheet repairs that will bolster earnings growth. Some have raised capital through rights issues, a strategy which has helped wipe out the negative shareholders’ funds. Firms suffered huge foreign exchange losses that undermined their balance sheets.

The recent economic recovery buoyed by relative stability in the foreign exchange market and bold reforms of the current administration have restored financial stability to PZ Cussons and peer rivals.

Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43% year-on-year (YoY) in real terms during Q2 2026.

Nigeria’s headline inflation has declined from 15.91 per cent in June 2026 to 15.43 per cent in July, according to the latest consumer price index (CPI) report just released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Despite a high tax liability, PZ Cussons posted profit after tax (PAT) of N45.17 billion, which is 349 percent higher than 2025’s N10.06 billion.

It is important to note that aside from an impressive uptick in sales, the profit growth was also supported by N11 billion foreign exchange gains.

Sales were up 22.48 percent to N260.45 billion in the period under review from N212.63 billion the previous year.

The board of directors of the consumer goods giant have proposed to pay a N2.50 dividend per share for the year ended 31 May 2026, fixing the qualification date for 9 October and payment for the 30th of the same month.
