The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Mohammadu Yahaya has added another feather to his well decorated cap as he received another prestigious award from the Guild of Private Medical Laboratory Directors of Nigeria (GMLD).
The Award was conferred on Governor Yahaya in recognition of his efforts in going extra miles to bring social change among the people of Gombe State and in keeping them informed about COVID-19 in 2020-2021.
GMC News correspondent in Abuja, Esther Solomon, reports that this was at the 23rd annual conference/AGM of the Guild held in Abuja with the team”Harnessing resources of public private mix for production of human vaccines and in-vitro diagnostic.
The Governor who was represented at the occasion by Director-General, Federal Government Relations, Mr Nuhu Laumara Sada, commended the Guild Directors for the very critical roles they play in enhancing quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
He maintained that accurate laboratory diagnostic is the first building block towards appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
The Governor assured the GMLD of Gombe State’s desire to partner with them in its determination of making Gombe State the mecca of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru was also recognised with an Award for his selfless service and for his efforts in fighting against cholera outbreak and COVID-19 in Gombe State.
The special guest of honour, Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo,represented by the Director-General, National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ikheazu, lauded the GMLD for their unalloyed commitment to the fight against COVID-19 and other diseases.He commended the GMLD for providing leadership, planning and ability to work together with government, noting with delight that the organization provides most of the diagnostic labs used in healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address the president of the GMLD, Prince Elochukwu Adibo stressed the commitment of the GMLD in the quest to commence local production of vaccines in Nigeria.
He emphasized the need to streamline the standardisation of medical lab practice in Nigeria, just as he pledged the commitment of the labs scientist to continue to be among the front line workers in the COVID-19 response.
