Benue Police Arrests One Suspect Over Justice Igbetar’s Assasination

Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a prime suspect in the alleged murder of a retired President Customary Court of Appeal with the Benue judiciary, Justice Margaret Igbetar.

“On 24th August, 2023 at about 1530hrs information was received at ‘E’ Police Division Makurdi, that Justice Margaret Mary Igbetar (rtd) could not respond to calls and was no where to be found. Detectives were immediately deployed for investigation”.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene in a statement in Makurdi, explained that, a search conducted within her house at Wantor Kwange street, Gboko road, Makurdi led to the discovery of her dead body in a pool of blood inside her kitchen.

The statement added that, it was also observed that the late Justuce had deep cuts at her back.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of one Aondohemba Joseph and recovery of exhibits for detailed investigation”.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue state command, CP. Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka, according to the PPRO, has condemned the dastardly act and assured of his commitment to ensure the unraveling the mystery behind the death and to bring perpetuators of this barbaric act to book.

While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the CP called members of the public to volunteer credible information what will lead to all the culprits in the crime.

Late Justice Margaret was the wife of late Engineer Joseph Igbetar, governirship aspirant on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) who lost primary election to Reverend Fr Moses Orshio Adasu who won at the polls in 1992 to become governor in Benue state.

She Hails from Mbaduku in Vandeikya local Government area of Benue state.
