A northern socio-economic group; Arewa Solidary Group (ASG), has applauded the initiative of the Governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the introduction of the social intervention programme in the state.

The group said, for most nations, one of the obstacles to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals is poverty.

The Chairman of the group, Isa Ahmed disclosed this in a statement made available to Money Central in Kaduna on Monday morning.

According to the leader of the group, the introduced social intervention scheme would go a long way to exit the state out of poverty and bring back life to Kwarans, especially those living below poverty line.

“Poverty has remained one of the major obstacles to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in some African countries of the world including Nigeria which Kwara state is not an exception to.

“The ugly development has pushed many people into beggars which hitherto has affected the standards of living of the populace in the country.

” As a concern group, we are also aware that Abdulrazaq had set out series of poverty interventions that would change the lives of the people for better so as to meet the world target of SDGs at wiping out poverty among the residents of the state by 2030,” Ahmed explained.

He said, the effort is already changing the narative of the baseline projections suggested that six per cent of the global population would still be living in extreme poverty in 2030.
