A tourism expert, Dr. Tobi Bernard Thomas, has disclosed that the only way the Nigeria economy can thrive is only if the government is proactive towards ensuring that the tourism sector is attractive.

He said the renewed hope agenda of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s drive for economic growth and development can easily be made possible if the government can harness the tourism potential of the country.

Dr. Thomas made the disclosure in Kafanchan at the weekend, where he also explained that with the nation’s tourism potential combined with the utilisation of ICT, the GDP of the country can grow massively.

According to him, the Federal Government should provide technological innovation, and be well focused on how to make the sector a source of income for the nation.

“To achieve all of these, the government must design a workable plan with the help of experts who are determined to change the history of the sector for the economic gain of the nation. At this time, the government must be more committed to provide a universal template for the sector.

“Government must also be encouraged to embrace the new era of business enthusiasm blowing in every corner of our business enterprise. We have the manpower and the resources to lead the world in tourism, but it seems the will is not there. And this is the best time for the government to show some commitment.

“Tourism is the engine of every economy, and the government should come up with a plan that will stimulate innovation and other advancements in the tourism industry,” Dr. Thomas emphasised.

He therefore urged the Federal Government to key into any programme around the world that is aimed at fostering innovation in the industry.
