On 15 January 2024, Lagos State achieved a significant milestone in transport safety with the official launch of the Digital Transport Support Platform (DTSP), marking it as the first initiative of its kind both in Africa and globally.

Spearheaded by Commissioner of Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and fully supported by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the DTSP sets a new global standard for ensuring the safety and security of commuters.

Commissioner Osiyemi proudly stated, “Launching the DTSP not only places Lagos State at the forefront of transport safety in Africa but also establishes us as a global pioneer. This groundbreaking initiative demonstrates our deep commitment to the welfare of Lagosians, setting a benchmark that we hope will inspire similar actions worldwide.”

The DTSP’s unique approach to integrating digital technology with transport safety measures has set a new precedent in the industry, ensuring stringent compliance with safety standards and fostering a secure commuting environment.

In acknowledging the collaborative efforts that contributed to the DTSP’s success, Commissioner Osiyemi commended Bolt and Lagride for their exemplary leadership and early adoption of the platform’s guidelines. “Bolt and Lagride’s commitment to safety, demonstrated by their swift alignment with the DTSP, exemplifies the power of collaborative innovation in achieving our safety goals. Their leadership sets an inspiring example for others in the transport sector,” he added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the broader implications of the DTSP for Lagos State’s reputation for excellence. “The global recognition of the DTSP as a pioneering safety initiative reaffirms our commitment to setting new standards in service delivery and quality of life in Lagos. Being ranked by Time Out magazine as one of the best places to live, ahead of cities like Dubai and Miami, reflects our continuous dedication to making Lagos a benchmark city not only in Africa but also on the world stage.”

To support this pioneering initiative, the Lagos State Government has made strategic adjustments to the Road Development Fund (RDF), ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the DTSP’s safety measures.

Commissioner Osiyemi concluded, “The DTSP’s launch is a defining moment in our quest to enhance transport safety. The collaboration and foresight of the Lagos State Government, led by the Commissioner and Governor Sanwo-Olu, have been instrumental in bringing this world-first initiative to fruition.”

With the DTSP now operational, Lagos is leading the way in transforming public transportation safety and efficiency, showcasing the city’s commitment to innovation and excellence on a global scale.
