In an effort to improve on the best practices in primary production, processing and value addition, Value Seed Limited, has advocated for women inclusion in agriculture in Nigeria.
The President of the company, Sir George Zangir stated this while delivering his welcome address during the AGRA gender consortium stakeholders meeting in Kaduna at the weekend.
While delivering his speech, Zangir called on the women farmers to harness the opportunities in the industry for positive impact on the society.
“Today’s meeting is the first in 2023 and it is significant for us as we look forward to discussing the progress, lessons learnt and opportunities that lie ahead as we strive to improve the livelihood of women in agriculture,” Zangir explained.
According to him, the gender consortium programme is to take place between 2022 and 2024; a period of three years, aiming at improving primary production and encourage women farmers in the country.
Also speaking, the project lead, Idoko Gabriel Samson, explained that the AGRA Gender consortium project is running concurrently in two states of the federation; Niger and Kaduna state respectively.
When asked on the choice of Niger and Kaduna state, the project lead further explained that the chosen states became attractive for the project due to their poverty rate and population, hence the need to improve the livelihood of women farmers for the benefit of the society.
Samson however, explained that reasonable number of women were targeted for the AGRA gender consortium project in the two mentioned states.
