Less than a week after several documents demonstrated the involvement of Chris Cuomo helping his brother on the sexual misconduct scandal CNN fired the former TV anchor.
Chris Cuomo was suspended last week from CNN while the mass media company evaluated the evidence of new information about the involvement on his brother’s, Andrew Cuomo (former New York Governor) defense.
Andrew Cuomo’s investigation
The Justice Department opened a civil-rights investigation into former’s New York Governor Andrew Cuomo after reports that stated that the former governor harassed multiple women.
On August 10, Andrew Cuomo resigned as NY governor over sexual harassment allegations after the New York’s attorney general found 11 women harassed by Cuomo as an investigation’s result.
What CNN Learned
Documents illustrated texts between Chris Cuomo and his brother’s top aide, Melissa DeRosa.
“Please help me with prep,” texted Chris Cuomo. And that he had “a lead on the wedding girl,” who was one of his brother’s accusers.”
After the findings presented by Attorney General Letitia James, CNN decided to terminate Cuomo.
“We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and terminated him, effective immediately,” CNN Communications said in a public statement. “While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”
Chris Cuomo’s response
In the past, Cuomo acknowledge that family was more important than his career.
“I’m not an adviser. I’m a brother. I wasn’t in control of anything. I was there to listen and offer my take,” he said when the scandal just erupted.
After CNN fired him, the TV anchor published a statement.
