Former Rivers State Governor, Nyeso Wike, is the first Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from Southern Nigeria since 1976, as there is optimism that he would use his wealth of experience to boost infrastructure in the seat of power.

The last Southerner to hold the position was Mobolaji Ajose Adeogun, who was minister of FCT from 1976 to 1979 and there has been a total of 16 persons to the head of the city of power.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday unveiled the lists of his ministers.

It was noted that the names of a former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai, a former national women leader of the All Progressives Congress, Stella Okotete and a ministerial nominee from Taraba state, Danladi Abubakar were missing.

Analysts are sanguine that Wike, who is in familiar territory being a former governor, will provide infrastructure and social amenities and transform FCT to a mega city that its founding fathers wanted.
