Italian Serie A side AC Milan are making effort to sign Nigerian winger Samuel Chuwkueze from Villareal before the summer transfer window closes, Moneycentral reports.
The Rossoneri remain very active on the market this summer and have completely changed tack from the approach taken by previous directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara.
Chukwueze’s price tag is believed to be in the region of €25m and his contract with the Yellow Submarine expires in June 2024.
The Super Eagle winger had a fantastic 2022/23 season for the Yellow Submarine, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions and playing in 37 of the 38 LaLiga matches, as his brilliant performances propelled Villarreal to a spot in European competition next season.
AC Milan have identified Chukwueze as one of their top targets for the transfer window. But, he will not be signed easily as Villareal are asking for a fee around €30m.
According to several reports in Spain, the price is likely decrease. Chukwueze is a non-EU player, which could clash with the situation involving Daichi Kamada, whom Milan has been pursuing and seemed close to signing.
However, in recent hours, there has been a growing sense of stagnation surrounding Kamada’s potential move from Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer.
The 24-year-old Nigerian striker’s days at the club are numbered as his contract expires in the summer of 2024 and several major clubs have shown interest in signing him.
His departure is expected to generate around €25m for Villarreal’s coffers. Currently, AC Milan is in the best position to get his services.
If Milan were to shift their focus on Chukwueze instead of the Japanese attacking midfielder, it would not affect the discussions with Chelsea for Pulisic because the American forward actually holds a Croatian passport.
Both deals will require more time to lower the demands of their respective clubs, but their contractual positions, expiring on June 30, 2024, could work in Milan’s favor in negotiations.
