The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports that it had started contract renewal talks for Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro whose contract expires at the end of June, Moneycentral reports.

Recent reports revealed the NFF President Ibrahim Gusau plans to use social media poll where Nigerians will vote to either retain or terminate the Portuguese contract as Super Eagles coach.

According to report published on The Guardian, NFF Media Director, Ademola Olajire, said the NFF is unaware of the contract renewal and any official information regarding Peseiro’s contract renewal will be made public by the federation at the appropriate time.

“I am not aware that Peseiro’s contract has been renewed. Such information will be released by the NFF when it happens,” Olajire said.

Peseiro was appointed as the national team’s new coach on May 15, 2022, following Austin Eguavoen’s return to his Technical Director role within the NFF.

Peseiro earns a whopping a monthly salary of $70,000 to coach the Super Eagles and  that has attracted outrage from many Nigerians who feel the pay is too outrageous.

Peseiro qualified the Super Eagles for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating the Sierra Leon 3-2 in Liberia and there are indications the 63-year-old Portuguese tactician might get a new deal with the NFF.

However in case if Peseiro fails to get a contract renewal, Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George have been tipped by Nigerians as  potential candidates to lead the Super Eagles.
