Victor Osimhen wants the Serie A giants Napoli to add a £103.8 million release clause in his new contract amidst interest from Chelsea.
The Nigeria international’s existing deal with the Napoli expires in the summer of 2025 and the striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.
The 24-year-old helped Napoli win their first League title for many seasons and led the scoring charts in the process – with reports suggesting that the Italians now value him at around the £170 million mark.
Chelsea are still in the race to sign Osimhen, despite Napoli’s reluctance to sell him this summer. Premier League rivals Manchester United also have the Nigerian on their radar.
The Blues believe Osimhen has the talent to change the side’s misfortunes in front of goal.
Osimhen thrived at the Partenopei last season. In 39 appearances in all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s team, the Nigerian found the back of the net 31 times and provided five assists.
Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor recently claimed that the club needs to sign a proper striker this summer window.
“They still need a proper striker,” Gabby Agbonlahor told Football Insider
“I liked Romelu Lukaku when he was playing at Everton. it is what a lot of teams need right out in the league aswell.
“Victor Osimhen would be good, but I think they are talking around £170m for him, which is too much.
Chelsea evidently need to bolster their attack despite the arrival of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson for now. The Blues we arguably need a lethal number nine in our ranks as well.
Romelu Lukaku has returned to the club for now. Unfortunately, the Belgian has failed at the club and looks to be on his way out. The West London club have also sold Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in the ongoing transfer window.
Osimhen seems to be one of the missing pieces of the puzzle at Chelsea. However, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will be able to acquire his services in the coming years.
