Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, chairman of Jezco Group and father of popular Instagram personality Eberechukwu Jowizaza, has regained his freedom after being abducted in Anambra State.

Ezeokafor was reportedly kidnapped in early August while travelling to a prayer ground near Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The latest development was reported on X by Nigeria Stories on Friday, August 15, with the platform describing the businessman as having regained his freedom after his abduction.

A separate summary circulating on X also stated that Ezeokafor was released around the Anambra-Enugu border.

Details surrounding the circumstances of his release, including whether any ransom was paid, were not immediately established from the information available.

Ezeokafor Was Abducted While Heading to Prayer Ground

The businessman was reportedly travelling to a prayer ground when he was abducted.

According to earlier reports, he was travelling without security at the time of the incident.

The abduction subsequently generated concern within his family and among people familiar with the businessman, particularly because of his age and profile as the chairman of Jezco Group.

The incident also drew public attention because of his connection to Jowizaza, a social media personality known for displaying a luxury lifestyle online.

Kidnappers Reportedly Demanded ₦700 Million

Before the latest announcement of Ezeokafor’s release, reports indicated that his abductors had demanded a ransom of ₦700 million.

The demand was subsequently reported to have increased to ₦1.5 billion, significantly raising concerns about the safety of the businessman and the family’s ability to meet the kidnappers’ demands.

Earlier reports also indicated that communication with the abductors had become uncertain at some point during the ordeal.

However, with Ezeokafor now reportedly free, attention is expected to shift towards how the release was secured and whether the reported ransom demands were ultimately met.

There is currently no verified information in the material available for this report confirming that a ransom was paid or stating the amount, if any, that was eventually paid.

Family Dispute Emerges During Abduction

The kidnapping also became the subject of a family dispute that spilled onto social media.

Ezeokafor’s daughter, Blessing, reportedly took to social media to criticise her brother, Jowizaza, over what she described as the image of wealth portrayed through his online lifestyle.

In the post, she allegedly questioned the apparent display of affluence on social media and claimed that the family was facing substantial financial obligations.

One of the claims circulating online is that the family owes banks approximately ₦40 billion.

However, the allegation has not been independently verified and should not be treated as an established fact.

The family disagreement has nevertheless added another dimension to the kidnapping story, particularly because of claims that the public display of wealth may have increased the family’s exposure to criminal targeting.

Claims About Jowizaza’s Social Media Lifestyle Remain Unverified

The online controversy centres partly on whether the luxury lifestyle associated with Jowizaza’s social media presence accurately reflects the family’s financial position.

According to the circulating claims, Blessing accused her brother of creating a false impression of wealth through his social media posts.

She reportedly argued that the family’s financial circumstances were considerably different from the picture that could be formed from some of the luxury content shared online.

These claims, however, remain allegations made in a family dispute and have not been independently established.

There is also no verified evidence presented in the material available for this report linking Jowizaza’s social media activities directly to his father’s abduction.

Ezeokafor’s Release Comes Amid Security Concerns in Southeast

The release of Ezeokafor comes against the backdrop of persistent concerns over kidnapping and other forms of insecurity in parts of the Southeast.

High-profile abductions have repeatedly generated public concern in the region, particularly when wealthy business owners and prominent individuals are targeted.

For families of high-net-worth individuals, the incident also highlights the security risks associated with publicly displaying wealth and personal information online.

However, security experts and law enforcement authorities would ultimately need to establish the circumstances surrounding Ezeokafor’s abduction before determining why he was targeted.

What We Know About the Release

At the time of this report, the key development is that Joseph Ezeokafor has reportedly regained his freedom.

Available reports indicate that he was released around the Anambra-Enugu axis.

However, several important questions remain unanswered.

These include:

– How exactly was Ezeokafor released?

– Was any ransom paid?

– If ransom was paid, how much was eventually handed over?

– Were any suspects arrested in connection with the abduction?

– Where was Ezeokafor held during his captivity?

– What is his current physical condition?

No verified official statement addressing all these questions was available in the information used for this report.

Family Yet to Fully Address Public Controversy

The latest development may also put renewed attention on the family dispute that emerged during the kidnapping.

While social media users have circulated various claims concerning the family’s finances and Jowizaza’s lifestyle, those claims remain subject to verification.

For a news report, allegations made during a family disagreement cannot be presented as established facts without independent evidence or confirmation from the relevant parties.

The immediate priority, however, is that the elderly businessman has reportedly regained his freedom after spending days in captivity.

Jowizaza’s Father Is Now Free

Ezeokafor’s release brings an end, at least for now, to a kidnapping ordeal that raised significant concerns over his safety.

The businessman was reportedly abducted while heading to a prayer ground in Anambra State, after which reports emerged of escalating ransom demands.

His reported release is therefore likely to provide relief to his family and associates.

Nevertheless, questions surrounding the circumstances of his abduction, the ransom negotiations and the identity of those responsible remain.

Authorities are expected to provide further information if investigations into the incident lead to arrests or other developments.

For now, the most significant update is that Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, father of Jowizaza and chairman of Jezco Group, has regained his freedom after being kidnapped in Anambra State.
