State-owned China Development Bank has released a 245 million-euro ($286 million) first tranche of funding for the Kaduna-Kano railway project in Nigeria, providing strong financial support for the smooth progress of the project construction.
The Kaka-Kako Railway is a key component of Nigeria’s “three vertical and five horizontal” national railway network.
With a total length of 203 kilometers, it is a standard-gauge railway. Upon completion, it will provide a direct rail link between the northern city of Kano and the capital, Abuja, providing a safe, efficient, and convenient means of transportation for local residents and effectively driving the development of related industries along the line.
Furthermore, the construction and operation of the project is expected to create numerous employment opportunities, providing new impetus for the cultivation of modern railway talent in Nigeria.
The Kaka Railway Project was included in the list of practical cooperation projects for the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
The project is being constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Limited (CCEC), with financing provided by China Development Bank (CDB). Since the signing of the loan agreement, CDB has maintained close communication with Nigeria, closely monitoring project progress, actively coordinating the implementation of loan disbursement conditions, and striving to ensure the early disbursement of the first loan.
The Kaka Railway project is currently progressing smoothly. Going forward, China Development Bank will work closely with Nigeria to actively carry out subsequent loan disbursement and post-loan management, contributing to the building of a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future.
