The South East Development Commission (SEDC), through its investment arm, the South East Investment Company (SEIC), has partnered with Gas Sync and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NNPC NGML) to launch the South East Gas Distribution Pipeline Infrastructure Project.
The official launch takes place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Hotel Presidential in Enugu.
The project features a 400km high-pressure gas distribution pipeline network designed to link the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Assa, Imo State, directly to key commercial and industrial clusters across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
The initiative responds directly to regional policy demands—notably advocated by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah—to prioritize piped natural gas distribution as a catalyst for energy access, manufacturing growth, and regional economic integration.

Strategic Rationale & Regional Economic Impact
-
Unlocking Industrial Competitiveness: Piped natural gas provides a cost-effective, continuous alternative to expensive diesel generation for heavy manufacturing hubs in Nnewi, Aba, Onitsha, and Enugu.
-
Capitalizing on Upstream Gas Resources: By connecting directly to the ANOH gas processing hub—one of Nigeria’s critical gas development projects—the regional pipeline monetizes domestic gas reserves locally rather than relying exclusively on export or national trunkline off-takes.
-
Institutional Framework via SEIC: The project represents one of the flagship commercial investments structured by the South East Investment Company (SEIC) to aggregate private equity, de-risk large-scale infrastructure, and deploy blended finance mechanisms for regional development.
