The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Benue State Chapter Wednesday conducted its elections at the state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Makurdi with Comrade John Shiaondo of Blueprint Newspaper emerging as chairman.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the credentials Committee, Issac Kertyo said, Shiaondo polled 13 votes to deafeat the immediate past interim Committee chairman, Patrick Omora of Radio Benue with 10 votes.
According to the results, Comrade Tamenor Kwaghzer of Newseco polled 16 votes to floor Daniel Uzah of Radio Nigeria Harvest FM with 7 votes to emerge Secretary while George Chiangi of Ontiv and and Uche Nnorom of People’s Daily emerging as Assistant Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
In their separate remarks, state NUJ Acting Chairman, Comrade Martins Kajo commended members for voting people of their choice to steer the affairs of SWAN in the state, urging them to hit the ground running even as he pledged the council’s for them to succeed in office.
Adjudicating oath of office on the new officials, the SWAN National vice president zone D, Comrade Uja Emmanuel charged then to revive the sicking SWAN in the state with activities that will keep members busy.
He urged the entire members of NUJ and SWAN to give their unflinching support to the new EXCO to discharge it duties effectively.
In a post election speech, the new Chairman, John Shiaondo thanked delegates for finding them worthy to steer the affairs of SWAN in the state and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them.
In a bye election, Patrick Omora emerged as Vice Chairman, Hembadoon Orsar of Leadership emerned as Financial Secretary while the post of Auditor was won by Terfa Alagh of The Voice Newspaper.
