The Organised Labour in Nasarawa State on Tuesday threatened to go on street protest and directed all affiliates of the union currently on strike to mobilise their members for a mass protest on the announced date.
Comrade Yusuf Iya, the State Chairman of NLC disclosed this in Lafia, while briefing newsmen after their congress meeting to update members about the ongoing strike.
The NLC chairman said they are seriously mobilising to protest in the streets to tell the whole world what is going on in the state. He said that the union had commenced a strike since June 15 over poor welfare, instead of the government meeting their demands, the government is intimidating them with a threat of ‘no work no pay.
He said, “We cannot be intimidated by any threat, because carrier progression which the strike was aimed at achieving, is better than anything else.” Iya further explained that since the government was not interested in addressing the real issues, they would adopt other strategies of pressing home their demands.
The NLC Chairman said that the officials of the union would not sign any agreement with the government until the government esponge the doctored clause that was included. He said the doctored clause says that whenever the federal allocation is less than N4 billion, the government would revert to old payment.”
“Meaning that any month the allocation is less than N4 billion the government would suspend the implementation of the promotion and pay workers in their old grade levels,” the NLC Chairman added.
Recall that the state government through the Head of Civil Service Commission on Friday June 25, said the government still maintains its stand on ‘no work no pay’.
