With the unprecedented growing socioeconomy of Borno state in the last few years, this shows that the state is tranforming into becoming the economy hub of not only the north-eastern part of the country, but that of the northern Nigeria.

Leveraging its demographics, Borno economic policies are being felt in various sectors, using agriculture, tourism, education, mining amongst others as launchpads.

However, for economy of any state to grow, its most put people to work, being the fundamental reason, the Borno state Gov. Prof. Umar Babagana Zulum has prioritized the welfare of the citizentry by improving the quality of life of the people he governed through the provision of massive infrastructure. Zulum, being a Professor of repute and a politician cum technocrat, since he assumed office in 2019, he has combined his emotional intelligence and vast education in the runing of the affairs of governance of the state.

His Midas’ touch, is no doubt, becoming a souce of hope to both the indigenes and non indigenes of the state; that Prof. Zulum can lead the state to a promise land. Despite the obvious insecurity challenges, he has focused more on how to rebuild hope on the people, that they merit to live a better life.

In his rescue mission, Zulum, in two years in office as the number one citizen of the state has delivered 556 capital projects that are directly connected to the downtrodden, while 70 per cent of the projects have been fully completed with many being put into use, while 30 per cent are at various levels of completion. These efforts have created a multiplier effect on the economy.

Within 2019 and now, 194 capital projects were delivered on education, and they encompass rehabilitation, completion and fresh construction of mega-size Government technical colleges and primary schools in different communities of the state, while 63 capital projects were delivered on Governance, and another 63 capital projects on roads, transport, rural and urban development, while 59 capital projects were delivered on water and environment, even when most of them are capital intensive.

Also, 58 capital projects on health, which include establishment of 74 primary healthcare centres, new doctors’ quarters, and overhaul of 8 hospitals in MMC, Biu, Damboa, Monguno and Magumeri were delivered.

Since assumption of office, zulum has also constructed 53 capital projects on rehabilitation and resettlement, which involve more than 6,000 resettlement houses for IDPs and refugees in 15 towns that are the mostly affected by the activities of Boko-Haram.

More so, to Zulum’s credit, 28 capital projects on jobs creation, youth empowerment and humanitarian support which include an all-inclusive vocational training centre with 14 workshops for capacity development of 1,500 persons per annum with15 capital projects on commerce and industry – 13 capital projects on agriculture and 10 capital projects were executed on security giving the state fascinating look.

In his approach, to securing the lives and properties of the people, being the primary responsibility of a democratic elected government, Zulum, beyond collaborating with military, police and other security agencies, he has also increase the monthly allowances of volunteers in the Civilian JTF, hunters and vigilantes, while over 700 vehicles and other logistics were donated to enhance their operational roles of complementing armed forces in fighting the Boko Haram.

To avoid livelihood crisis, Zulum has begun modalities for reopening of farmlands along Mulai and Dawa communities, the decision which was in compliance with the directive of the President Buhari that the
Nigerian military and other security agencies should work with Borno State Government and come with modalities that would allow people have access to their farms, forests and fishing grounds. Zulum has always held the view that keeping resettled communities out of agricultural activities could lead to serious food crisis in the state with the believe that food aid from foreign and local donors was unsustainable.

Despite the slim resources from the central government to the federating units in the recent times, considering the efforts of a gentle politician called Zulum, it is therefore apt to conclude that Gov. Umar Babagana Zulum has kept to his electioneering campaign promises as a man of integrity whose handiwork in providing good governance has revived the hope of the downtrodden.

This singular act of Zulum, has boosted the state’s socioeconomy and moved the state up to be amongst the economic viable states in the country – this which is now noticed beyond the shore of the country.
