Suspected bandits who kidnapped eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on their way to the orientation camp in Sokoto State have finally demanded ransom.

Some media outlets reported last Friday, that the terrorists abducted the Corps members along a highway within Zamfara State.

They were said to be travelling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital to Sokoto State, for the mandatory National Service when the bandits struck.

Nigerians including ace actress, Kate Henshaw condemned the abduction, with the thespian, urging the Federal Government to scrap the NYSC scheme.

However, speaking to DAILY POST on the matter recently, the father of one of the kidnapped victims, Emmanuel Eket said a sum of N4million was demanded by the bandits as ransom to secure his daughter’s release.

According to him, his daughter, Glory had been giving them updates on the developments in the bandits’ camps, as her abductors had been speaking with him through her phone.

“They called me with her number, demanding the sum of N4 million. They allowed me to speak with my daughter because I asked how they wanted us to pay and my daughter said we should contact the AKTC,” the man added.

“Since that time, they have not called and I have not spoken with my daughter. I don’t know if they have released them but my daughter has not called me.”

While the Zamfara State Police Command has remained mum over the abduction, a military source who preferred anonymity confirmed the kidnap, pointing out that a rescue team was currently combing the forest to rescue the corps members.
