No fewer than twenty residents of Guma and Makurdi local government areas of Benue state have fallen to the bullets of rampaging Fulani terrorists that have invaded some communities in the past days.
Worst hit was when a total of 18 people including women and children were killed in the evening at Ukohol in Guma local government area after an unprovoked herdsmen attack on the community.
Many others were said to have sustained injuries of various degrees, while hundreds of those displaced were seen moving to the neighbouring town of Daudu on foot with the few belongs they could pick during the attack.
It was gathered that in the two separate attacks, the first claimed 6 lives in the morning of that fateful Friday while another attack was lunched in the evening which claimed twelve lives.
The council chairman of Guma local government area, Doctor Michael Uba, confirmed that the attacked was unprovoked one as it occurred when people went to fetch produce in their farms to feed the families.
He said, the terrorists who were sighted at a distance by resident were said to have dressed in black attires, saying the incident was reported to security agencies in the area.
In a related development, two persons were gruesomely murdered on Friday by herdsmen at Zongu Akiki community behind NASME barrack in Makurdi local government area of the state.
A survivor, one Alexander Adema told correspondent that they were on their way to harvest crops when attackers open fire on them but he was lucky to escape into the nearby bush.
“After gunning down their victims, Tyokyaa Awen and Jacob Agber, they butchered Awen into pieces using their long cutlasses”. Adema alleged.
Reacting to the development, the Council chairman of Makurdi local government area, Mrs Eunice Torbunde said the attacks residents in the community was becoming a daily occurrence, lamenting that people could access their farms for fear of been killed by herdsmen terrorists.
While calling on security agencies to step up surveillance in the area to forestall further killings, she advised farmers to be vigilant and go to their farms in groups.
It will be recalled that only last week, the said Fulani terrorists have invaded Gbeji community in Ukum local government area of the state during which 36 persons were gruesomely murdered with several others, missing and others sustaining injuries who are receiving medical attention in different medical centers in the state.
